Computer-aided cognitive recovery in patients with cardiovascular diseases

A multimodal approach to prevent the cognitive impairment in patients with cardiovascular diseases combines control of major risk factors, recovery, and physical training. Here we discuss current advances computer-aided (also called computer-assisted) recovery diseases, as this has a number advantages comparison conventional tools. We describe training software stimulate perception, attention, short-term memory, executive functions, speech, thinking. Baseline neurological examination neuropsychological testing are mandatory before starting recovery. particular attention is paid high prevalence cardiac surgery patients. Around half them have pre-operative impairments, almost suffer from postoperative dysfunction. Among brain regions, prefrontal parietal cortex hippocampus most sensitive circulatory disorders they supplied by terminal branches cerebral arteries. Therefore, rehabilitation should include tasks activating these regions.
